Benitez searches for first silverware as Blues boss
The west London team are aiming to be crowned world club champions, but will have to navigate a tricky semi-final tie against a Mexican side full of confidence.

Overview

CF Monterrey won the CONCACAF Champions League for the second consecutive season in April, gaining the upper hand over Mexico Apertura rivals Santos Laguna (3-2 Aggregate Score over two legs).
However, this is the first time Victor Vucetich's men will play in the Club World Cup's semi final; Having been knocked out by Kashiwa Reysol on Penalties last year. Monterrey should be riding on the Cup's run of results, the 3-1 over Ulsan Hyundai; probably a sign of the expected self-belief within.

Chelsea are unlikely to have an easy ride to a maiden Club World Cup title, particularly with the Blues still searching for a measure of identity under interim manager Rafael Benitez. Nevertheless, the Spaniard (who won the trophy with Inter Milan in 2010) must be feeling that this would be his best shot at silverware with the Stamford Bridge club, as well as a chance to convince Roman Abramovich to offer a permanent contract.Vucetich has admitted Monterrey will likely find it difficult to stop the Blues offensively but insisted that his players would take up this challenge, and give Chelsea a a hard time.

The Premier League club, meanwhile, will look to gain as much confidence from a mid-season title as they possibly can. Chelsea are certainly the favourites going into this game and they arrive in Japan on the back of two very good results - a 6-1 defeat of FC Nordsjaelland in a Champions League group stage match and an excellent win at the Stadium of Light in a league fixture.
A Crucial factor for them is Fernando Torres having scored twice in each of those games would be travelling to play in this game. Hearsay has it that Benitez is the reason for Torres' overall improvement and renewed vigor; though I would attribute it to the departure of Didier Drogba. (2 Stars cannot complement each other most of the times; this is and was my analysis and perception; just alike the stars of the England National Squad)
Overall performance and style of play has improved ever since Rafael Benitez's first game (goalless draw against Premier League champions Manchester City). Nevertheless, the Stamford Bridge faithfuls have not taken on to Benitez as yet.
The trip to Japan has additional benefits for Chelsea, given that they can forge a mutually beneficial business/working partnership/relations.

FACTSHEET

Chelsea have won only three of their last 13, but were victorious in each of their last two matches.
Monterrey finished a disappointing seventh of Mexico's Apertura tournament, the first half of the domestic campaign.
This will be Rafa Benitez's third Club World Cup campaign, having lost to Sao Paulo with Liverpool in 2005 and triumphed with Inter over Mazembe in 2010. If Chelsea win the trophy, he will draw level with fellow Spaniard Pep Guardiola, who has two winners’ medals earned with Barcelona in 2009 and 2011.
Fernando Torres has scored four goals in his last two games - he currently has 23 in 92 for the club. The Spaniard is 3/1 to score the first goal with William Hill.
Torres attempted nine shots in Chelsea's Champions League match against FC Nordsjelland, the most he has ever attempted in a game for the Blues - he scored two goals.
Cesar Delgado (right) scored two goals for Monterrey in their last Club World Cup match against Ulsan Hyundai, with the match ending 3-1 to the Mexicans.
